3:52 pm - Sabrina
Its the second time I've used my temporary home studio. I did a test shoot with a new model, Sabrina, for an agency that plans to go live in the new year.

Hopefully they will like my work enough to invite me to work with them again

9:01 pm - Strobist's shoot
I went along to a local strobist's group shoot recently to observe and try and learn something. I know at my age thats a lot to ask but I have to try. I turned up early along with Karina . While we waited in the rain I took a few unposed snapshots. I quite like this one. :-)

4:12 pm - My daughter
Images of my daughter when I visited her and her family last week. If you have any idea what the weather was like last week in Scotland you might be surprised that I got any outdoor images at all

I hope you like these, I do.

9:58 am - Second shoot with Steferny two weeks ago
Images from my second shoot two weeks ago with steferny_wakeman . I think the single prop worked well with the theme. Despite it raining almost throughout our shoot I'm pleased with the results

I hope you like these!

4:52 pm - Ebay and Paypal
In my opinion paypal value the custom of a liar and cheat who does a lot of business with them more than the custom of an honest individual who does very little business. I bought an item from a trader that was faulty when it arrived. I suppose as it was only around £7 it would have made sense to cut my losses when the trader lied to me in correspondence twice. Instead I agreed to send it back. Obtained a post office certificate of posting, which I scanned and sent him a copy. He denied that it came back so I put the complaint in Paypals hands, giving them a copy of the certificate as well. They have ruled against me.

The loss is not huge but it leaves a bad taste and I will try to use all other options possible before using paypal again.

7:12 pm - Lex Eleven
Images from my shoot a week ago with Lex Eleven . Despite being the coldest I've experienced on a shoot (the docks were frozen over in places) it all went well and I'm pleased with the results.

I also used a different lens for a couple of the shots. I didn't get it for model shoots but it seems to work well for close images :)

Enjoy!

12:02 pm - Yesterday's shoot with Dominika
Yesterday I met up with the lovely Dominika for some photos. It was a bitterly cold day with bright sunshine, although the sun was low to the horizon all day. Quite challenging conditions for me so I sought out the shade most of the time. Here is a headshot I like. I'll post some more when I've worked on them.

7:45 pm - Beware SPIDER Beware
I thought I should warn you there be a SPIDER lurking behind the cut so don't click if you hate spiders.

I now have a macro lens and a ring flash. The flash is not high power so I've found an unexpected problem. I experimented today with a small house spider. The camera was hand held and the weight of the lens and flash mean it is more difficult to hold steady.

When I did a 1:1 at f 8 the ring flash duration was short enough to produce a sharp image but the depth of field so shallow that I only got a very small part of the creature in focus. The leg image is a crop from the full size image without additional sharpening.

I then tried f 32 but the duration of the flash now needs to be so long that I'm not holding the camera steady enough. Despite reducing the image size to 50% of the original and using additional sharpening the camera movement is excessive. It looks like I'm going to need a tripod or a bean bag at the very least to get this to work for me.

Strangely there does appear to be sufficient power in the flash for close headshots. Now I need a model (guinea pig) to test that out ;-)

8:23 pm - Tearing my hair out
I spent an hour on the phone to my ISP to try to resolve an issue they created three days ago that meant my website and the images I hosted on it, including those I posted here. were invisible to anyone using Virgin Media as their ISP. I didn't think I'd resolved anything and spent a similar time writing a letter to their complaints department. Then I started writing an apology on the main modelling site I use explaining my disappearing images.

It seems they do listen because a short while ago my website and images reappeared.

I hope its permanent!

9:32 pm - Another Dracinabox shoot
Here are some of the images from my most recent shoot for Drac-in-a-Box with Ivy Midsomer. Take a look on the Drac-in-a-Box site if you would like to see more :)

All this was done while trying to avoid the rain and the attention of a band of construction workers who were very vocal in their approval of Ivy.
